Our Japanese Chin

When I started pursuing my judging license, I was introduced to a number of different breeds. I was. quite frankly, nervous about judging small dogs, so concentrated on learning more about them. I visited Harold & Marie Langseth to learn about the Japanese Chin, where a tiny princess stole my heart with a single touch of her dainty paw. It wasn't long before "Parker" (Ch Langcroft's Chasing Parked Cars) joined the SunoJo clan. The Chin now run the household - how did we go from the tough independent Akita to a 6 lb foo foo that needs protection from cats?

Before I go any further and introduce you to our wonderful Chin, it is extremely important to realize the special characteristics and needs of a Chin if you are considering adding one to your family. Visit About Japanese Chin for more information about history, traits and health. The recent explosion of celebrities having toy dogs as fashion accessories may look like a good idea, but these are living, sensitive creatures that cannot be discarded with last year's shoes. With a lifespan from 10 - 16 years, a Chin will need your love and care for that entire time. These are NOT outdoor dogs - they cannot be left in the back yard or on the patio. They need to be indoors, groomed frequently, fed carefully, and loved unconditionally. Please consider carefully your lfestyle and expectations before purchasing ANY dog.

Now, on with introductions:

American/Canadian Champion Langcroft's All Systems Go, Award of Merit US National Show
sire: AmCh Chindale's Hunk at Langcroft dam: AmCh Langcroft's Thistledown
breeder Harold & Marie Langseth

"Houston"

The love of Rowan's life, this little man filled the house with his attitude. Gone now, but not forgotten, he lives on through his kids: Truly, Truman, Austin, Miss Spike, and Hope.

American/Canadian Champion Gayel's BeeLieve It or Not
sire: multi BISS AmCh BeetleJuice dam:
breeder Tony Gagliano & Gale Rivers

"Ripley"

Since Rowan had "her" dog, I had to get one for myself. Ripley decided however that she should attach herself to our son Cameron. She often made trips into hockey dressing rooms with him, reducing those big tough hockey boys to "aawwwws" and "she's so cool!". In her younger days she fit quite nicely into his goalie glove, now she's a bit too round a hound for that. When Cameron moved out, I got "my" dog back, but when he comes for a visit he's the one that she favours with her attention.

Ripley finished her Canadian championship easily, and was well on her way to American championship when she took some time off to have puppies. That time off stretched to over 2 years, while she got her coat back. THEN that American championship was accomplished. She had two litters, and then retired to grow this huge coat and rule the roost.

American/Canadian Champion SunoJo's Too Good To Bee True
sire: Houston dam: Ripley
breeder: Susan Norris-Jones

"Truly"

Our lovely girl - many people got to know Truly from her road trips with Rowan on the show circuit. She would get bored waiting while Rowan was showing other dogs, so several times engineered daring escapes to go on search missions for her. "Rowan, your Black & White can be picked up at the announcers booth" was often heard. It only took a few trips south to attain her American championship, and since then we have bred her twice, to the wonderful Denzel. She had not quite grown her coat back when she was entered at the 2nd Canadian National Specialty in August 2008 (the largest entry ever in Canada), where she was Best Opposite Sex, to Denzel.

It's All About Mia
sire: Angelo dam: Jewels
breeder: Anthony Galliano

"Mia"

No titles (yet!) - Mia does not enjoy the ring, which is a real shame as she is a lovely elegant Chin with a head style that is so beautiful. We hope to get her in the ring in 2009; she continues to mature both physically and emotionally. She was bred to Denzel, and produced the stunning Angel, Ella, Sprite and Dexter (more on them!)
